Following historic launch in Istanbul, 6Rang presents ground-breaking report at Stockholm Pride

29 July 2014 | 6Rang (Iranian Lesbian & Transgender Network) will present its report documenting accounts of survivors of forced sex change operations under the Islamic Republic, at a panel during the Stockholm Pride on 1 August 2014. Pathologizing Identities, Paralyzing Bodies: Human Rights Violations against Lesbian, Gay and Transgender People in Iran details human rights abuses imposed on lesbian, gay and transgender individuals in Iran. It challenges the legal and medical grounds for Iranian authorities who diagnose sexual minorities with gender identity “disorders” and force them to undergo medical treatments, including sterilization, to “cure” them of homosexual feelings and cross-gender expressions. The report was launched at a panel on 26 June 2014 during Istanbul Pride 2014. The pioneering report was coupled with the first ever organizational presence of Iranian LGBT community at a Pride. The news of this success received extensive coverage by international media as well as Turkish and Iranian media. Following its successful launch, 6Rang will present the report at a panel during Stockholm Pride at 6:30 pm at RFSL Stockholm at Sveavägen 59, 113 59 Stockholm on Friday, 1 August 2014. 6Rang Coordinator and lead researcher, Shadi Amin and legal researcher, Raha Bahraini will speak at the panel and Nadia Zabehi, an LGBT activist based in Stockholm will present there.
