About us

6Rang (Iranian LGBT+ Network) is a lesbian-led organisation working for an Iran in which every LGBT+ person can live openly, safely, and without fear.

6Rang is dedicated to eliminating homophobia, transphobia, and all forms of violence and discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, and sex characteristics (SOGIES).

Founded after the first gathering of Iranian lesbian and transgender individuals in 2010, 6Rang has since developed a broad network of more than 200 LGBT+ individuals, most of whom are based inside Iran. 6Rang is also a member of the International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Intersex Association (ILGA).6rang is also a member of the Eurocentralasian Lesbian* Community ).

To achieve its mission, 6Rang pursues the following core strategies:

  1. Capacity-building and empowerment:
Strengthening the resilience and capabilities of its members to resist homophobia and transphobia’ through online counselling for LGBT+ individuals and their families, training workshops, and targeted social-media content.
  2. Documentation of human rights violations:
Documenting individual cases and broader patterns of abuse against LGBT+ people in Iran to raise awareness among families and society at the national level, as well as internationally, of the laws, policies, and practices that deprive them of their rights and dignity.
  3. Research-based advocacy and campaigning:
Conducting evidence-informed international advocacy and media campaigns to press the Iranian government to decriminalise same-sex relations and repeal other discriminatory laws and practices designed to erase LGBT+ identities and force their invisibility.
